I am reminded of a sign I once saw at a sign shop: "<em>A business with no sign is a sign of no business.</em>"

Yet, there are so many little things where we can send the wrong message to the public.

Mike, you are right about little things that say "we are closed for business". Many of us see indictors such as dark sunscreens in windows at retail shops or simple over looked things that make it appear they are closed or out of business. Customers need to see positive indicators that a business is open and they are welcome.

I think many businesses make the mistake of leaving the wrong message on the answering machine when they are at lunch. It may say they are closed for the day when actually they are just at lunch.
